There were a lot of people that seemed very passionate and knowledgeable about wine. I was interested in the fact that all of the facultly came from a different science. One lady was a chemist and another came from a plant bio background. Wine is something that combines many different knowledge bases.

The actual technology was amazing. Especially that 'sniffing' machine he was using to find and isolate sulfurs in wines. I had no idea so much thought and technical know how goes into making wine.

I loved how the professor at the end FINALLY adressed the "elephant in the room" that wine gets you high. Because doesnt it mean the less alchohol you can taste and the more fruity it is, the better the wine? In that case, why wouldnt you just drink grape juice?

The part that was key to this class in particular is one that one researcher started talking about the human body as the most sophisticated machine. This seems to be the main debate in the TCS major. To what extent are machines able to replace us? We always take for granted the technolgy that is US, which is an amazing and intricate machine.

Good trip, it got me thinking a lot about how technology and culture intersect to make this cultural drink that gets us high.

Just a thought.
